Our History

Fred Pursehouse originally started in Agricultural Distribution in 1962. He started a family business servicing Werris Creek and the adjoining Liverpool Plains areas.

From its humble beginning as a hardware store in Werris Creek, NSW, Pursehouse Rural has grown to become one of the largest privately owned independent agribusiness’s in Australia. The entity is now recognised as a reputable supplier of agricultural chemical, seed, fertiliser, general farm supplies, equine supplies, pet supplies and stock feed.


1962 – 1970

Werris Creek

  • 1962 Fred Pursehouse began selling agricultural products from a hardware store at Werris Creek NSW
  • With the success of the agricultural side of business, hardware was discontinued and the business pivoted to focus entirely on agricultural products.

1970 – 1980

Quirindi

  • 1979 – a branch was opened in Quirindi NSW which became the company Head Office.

1980 – 1990

Groundspray

  • 1981 – Quirindi Groundspray commenced operations
  • 1986 – Malcolm Pursehouse purchased the business from the other Pursehouse family members.
  • 1986 – Werris Creek Branch was closed and customers serviced from the adjoining town of Quirindi

1991

Gunnedah

  • Gunnedah NSW branch opened

1996

  • Pursehouse Rural joined the IHD business group (now AgLink Australia)

1998

Coonabarabran

  • Coonabarabran NSW branch opened.

2001

Mullaley

  • Mullaley NSW branch opened

2002

Narrabri

  • Narrabri NSW branch opened

2006

Pittsworth, Melrose and Allora

  • Three branches acquired in Southern Queensland (Pittsworth, Melrose and Allora)

2007

  • Boggabri NSW branch opened

2007

  • Pursehouse Rural commences a joint venture business with AGnVET Services with 7 branches in Northern NSW and Queensland under the AGnVET RURAL brand.

2008

Clifton

  • Clifton QLD branch opened

2009

Ayr

  • AGnVET RURAL branch opened at Ayr in Northern Queensland.

2010

Warwick

  • Branch at Warwick QLD acquired –  Now Pursehouse Rural Warwick

2011

Coolah

  • Branch at Coolah NSW opened

2013

Cecil Plains

  • Branch at Cecil Plains acquired – now Pursehouse Rural Cecil Plains

2016

Tamworth & Moonbi

  • Tamworth and Moonbi store acquired – Now Pursehouse Rural Tamworth, Pursehouse Rural Moonbi and Saddleworld Tamworth

2017

Muswellbrook

  • Muswellbrook acquired – Now Pursehouse Rural Muswellbrook

2019

Uralla

  •  Saddleworld Muswellbrook began trading
  • Uralla NSW branch opened

2020

Proserpine

  • Proserpine acquired – Now Pursehouse Rural Proserpine

Sarina
